EDISON, NEW JERSEY, May 1, 2016 – Don Allen, Director of Engineering for Super Stud Building Products, Inc., will be delivering a special one-hour live presentation at the 2016 Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) and Mid-Atlantic Steel Framing Alliance (MASFA) expo on Tuesday, May 24, in Annapolis, Maryland. The presentation is entitled “Devil in the Details: Learning from Mid-Rise Successes and Failures,” and will touch on several of the loadbearing mid-rise steel projects that Allen has experienced in over 25 years in the cold-formed steel (CFS) framing industry. “Speaking at the CFSEI Expo is a very special opportunity, because most of the engineers and contractors there already have at least some experience with steel framing,” says Allen. “MASFA has really helped out this year by making the event more open and geared to contractors as well – so I am looking forward to having several experienced contractors participate.” At his presentations, Allen always leaves the floor open to questions and comments from attendees. Having an experienced group of contractors and design professionals will enhance the presentation for everyone. Immediately after Allen’s presentation will be the CFSEI Design Forum, hosted by Dr. Roger LaBoube. This follow-up will give participants another opportunity to ask Allen and other industry experts pointed questions about specific design and detailing issues.
At his 1-hour presentation starting at 11 a.m. in the Jonas Green room of the Historic Inns of Annapolis, Allen will show both design examples and field photos / repairs where problems have been avoided / created / resolved on CFS framing projects. Allen will discuss each specific design challenge, why a certain approach was taken, what went right with the design and construction, and what could have been done differently for conditions that did not work. Allen will also discuss some of his recent work overseas, and how innovations worldwide are shaping CFS construction in North America.
