According to a press release issued October 4, 2018, The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in cooperation with the Wei-Wen Yu Center for Cold-Formed Steel Structures at the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri, is a co-sponsor of the Wei-Wen Yu International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel Structures 2018. This year’s conference will be held on November 7-8 at the Union Station Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. A total of 1.6 CEUs will be available for participants.
The biennial event brings together leading researchers, engineers, manufacturers and educators involved in the design and use of cold-formed steel members for building construction to discuss recent research findings and design considerations. Twelve technical sessions will be presented during the two-day event.
The recipients of the Wei-Wen Yu Student Scholars Program and the Wei-Wen Yu Outstanding Student Paper Award will be recognized on November 7th. These students are selected based on papers that they submit for the conference and present during the conference proceedings. A volume of conference proceedings will be available to participants at the conclusion.
The release states: “AISI has been a proud co-sponsor of the Wei-Wen Yu International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel Structures since it began in 1971, and this year’s conference will be the 24th in the series,” said Jay Larson, P.E., F.ASCE, managing director of AISI’s Construction Technical Program. “It is the premier event for industry, researchers and academia to share ideas and discussion on the latest innovations in cold-formed steel design. The conference is an informative and efficient way to exchange information and make plans for advancing the use of cold-formed steel in construction.”
Additional sponsors of the Wei-Wen Yu International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel Structures 2018 include the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI), Metal Building Manufacturers Association(MBMA), Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI), Steel Deck Institute (SDI), Steel Framing Industry Associationand the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

This Sunday, October 7, is the advanced registration deadline to sign up for the Wei-Wen Yu Center for Cold-Formed Steel Structures (CCFSS) International Specialty Conference on Cold-Formed Steel, November 7 – 8 in St. Louis, Missouri. The agenda is set, and 60 papers from more than countries will be presented. The brightest minds from across the globe in our framing industry will be there, including Dr. Dinar Camotim from Portugal, Dr. Colin Rogers from Canada, and Dr. YuanQi Li from China.
Don Allen, P.E., LEED AP, and Director of Engineering at Super Stud Building Products will be chairing the session on Shear Walls, alongside Mr. Paul Dalia: the 2018 – 2019 Chairman of the Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI).
Since Don is closely invovled with product development at Super Stud, this Specialty Conference not only plants the seeds for ideas on new products for the framing industry, but also allows Don to discuss some of those ideas with like-minded intelligent researchers and practitioners from other industries.
