ICC Don Allen Webinar 20181022

Don Allen, P.E., LEED AP, Director of Engineering at Super Stud Building Products, will be presenting a webinarhosted by S. K. Ghosh and the International Code Council on October 30, 2018.

The seminarwill provide examples of Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) shear wall design that highlight common mistakes and emphasize smart design. In addition to explaining specific detailing requirements for lateral resistance of (CFS) framed structures, examples of shear wall designs using several of the methodologies available using AISI S213 and AISI S240: North American Standard for Seismic Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Systems will be presented.

Specific topics will include:

  • Layout of shear walls in a structure: tips for avoiding field problems
  • Deflection and stiffness calculations for shear walls
  • Where type I and type II shear walls make sense
  • Examples with both structural wood and steel sheathing
  • Boundary element design and sheathing attachment methods
  • Collectors and connection design do’s and don’ts
  • Appropriate use of hold-downs
  • Challenging wall-floor intersection details
  • This web seminar will also include three question-and-answer sessions.

About The International Code Council:

The International Code Council is a member-focused association with over 64,000 members. It is dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures. The International Codes ®, or I-Codes ®, published by ICC, provide minimum safeguards for people at home, at school and in the workplace. The I-Codesare a complete set of comprehensive, coordinated building safety and fire prevention codes. Building codes benefit public safety and support the industry’s need for one set of codes without regional limitations. Learn more about ICC here.
